In the early 1950’s Gerard and his father Kurt Fischl began NSW Leather Company Pty Ltd.

From its first humble beginning on the 3rd floor of 176 Day St in Sydney where they operated amongst other warehouses, Flour mills and trams that crisscrossed the area around Darling Harbour, our first leather warehouse was born.

With their green Morris Minor (AFO 616) the 2 became known for their Irish kid suede and beautiful French patent and calf that they sold to the many footwear factories in Sydney and Melbourne.

By the early 1960’s it became clear that bigger warehouse premises were needed to accommodate the huge range of leathers being demanded for men’s and women’s clothing and footwear that they introduced.

By Feb 1962 the business moved to much bigger premises as 840 Elizabeth St, Waterloo which enabled them to promote their products to a much wider audience.

Staff numbers swelled and a loyal band of customers followed. To find a quicker way to market in the 1970’s they expanded with another warehouse in Collingwood Victoria and agencies around Australia.

Further expansion into Upholstery leathers continued & through solid partnership’s with important tanneries around the world and their own offices developing new products for the Australian Market the business continued to thrive and Gerard’s son Ian entered the business in the mid 1980’s.

The formula of innovative leather products ethically sourced, environmentally-friendly and with sustainability in mind is the key to the future. It is why our Upholstery leathers adorn the walls and Interiors of the most important commercial and residential installations and our Footwear and Leathergoods leathers are being used by all the marquee brands across Australia and New Zealand.

We are constantly sourcing new trends and technologies to offer our customers the most advanced and current leathers. We have exclusive agency agreements with many of the large tanneries in Europe and South America and from them we acquire many exotic fantasy leathers including croc prints, snake prints, ostrich prints etc direct from the current European fashion houses.

For 70 years NSW Leather Co. has been involved in the leather industry and we understand the need now more than ever, to preserve our planet. It is our responsibility to the next generation.
